A rental platform described as the "eBay of renting" has confirmed plans to come to New Zealand.
It was revealed this week that Rentberry is expanding into Australia.
The start-up allows tenants to bid against each other for a property and landlords then choose the best option.
Tenant groups in Australia have been critical of the idea, saying bidding wars are only designed to push prices up.
Commentators here said it could create efficiencies in the rental market.
Rentberry has already received more than US$1.2 million ($1.7m) of funding. Its chief executive, Alex Lubinsky, said it was not always the highest bid that got a property - sometimes landlords preferred a renter with a good credit history or strong references.
Lubinsky said New Zealand should expect Rentberry, too.
"The funny thing is that everyone is talking about Australia. But they missed the point that we are entering Australia and New Zealand. Cause those two countries are English speaking and for us it is much easier to enter two countries."
